A District Simplified Grant to Club helps us support Family Promise.
The Rotary Foundation has awarded Our Club a grant this year to be matched by funds raised by our Club to support the efforts of Family Promise of the Bryan/College Station. Family Promise helps families in need by providing shelter, meals and support services while they find suitable housing and employment. Participation with local churches and synagogues achieves housing and meals for the clients during their period of need. The Family Promise Day Center on Wilde Oaks St. serves as a location from which clients can seek employment, complete necessary paperwork, shower, wash and dry clothes, etc. Families are driven to and from the Day Center by volunteers with a Family Promise van. Day care facilities are available for young children across the street from the center.
Our Rotary Club, using its financial contributions, helped Family Promise pay for its van and its usage, and helped families with clothing needs (16 children) as part of our annual Clothing for Children program. Expenses for certificates (birth, health, etc.), day center repairs, and volunteer hour are needs also supported as a result of our gift. You can help us raise the matching funds of $3000 received from the Rotary Foundation. Funding achieved in 2009 through our Welch Tennis Tournament was in part used to match the Rotary Foundation grant.
If you are willing to help us with this effort directed toward Family Promise, or toward our other charitable efforts, please do so. You can submit your check to “Rotary Club of College Station Charities” with “Family Promise” in the memo line, if that is your interest, and send it to the attention of Mr. Phil Granberry, our treasurer, at the above address.
